School board nomination papers now available

Whitney Hein, Jones County Auditor and Commissioner of Elections, announces that the nomination filing period for school board directors will begin Monday, Aug. 28, in the offices of the school board secretaries. The filing period runs until 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21. All nomination papers must be filed in the offices of the school board secretary.
Due to a legislative change in 2018, the school elections have been moved from September to November and will be combined with the city elections. Persons living in the rural areas of the county will have only school candidates on their ballots, while persons living in the cities will have both school and city candidates on their ballots.
In the Monticello Community School District, two seats are up for election for four-year terms. The signatures of at least 46 eligible electors of the district are required on nomination petitions.
In the Anamosa Community School District, four seats are up for election for four-year terms. The signatures of at least 50 eligible electors of the district are required on nomination petitions.
In the Midland Community School District, three seats are up for election for four-year terms. The signatures of at least 25 eligible electors of the district are required on nomination petitions.
In the Olin Consolidated School District, three seats are up for election for four-year terms. The signatures of at least 11 eligible electors of the district are required on nomination petitions.
Nomination packets are available in the office of the school board secretary, the Jones County Auditor's Office, and the Jones County Election website (www.jonescountyiowaelections.gov).
The combined city and school election is on Tuesday, Nov. 7. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
