Seniors set example for younger chapter members

FFA WEEK

     The leadership ability of seniors in the Monticello FFA Chapter is evident every year, and this one is no exception.

     The following are profiles of the Monticello FFA seniors.

 

     Name: Quinton Fellinger.

     Office held: Sentinel.

     Parents/guardians: Tim and Carrie Fellinger.

     Hometown: Monticello.

     SAE Project: Pork Chop Ranch.

     FFA Activities: Showing pigs, 212 and 360 Conference, Ag Mechanics Contest, FFA Volleyball, National Officer Training.

     Most memorable FFA activity or accomplishment: Sand volleyball at our summer meeting.

     Future plans: Go to Kirkwood Community College for diesel ag mechanics and farm with my older brother Tanner.

 

     Name: Grace Gadient.

     Office held: President.

     Parents/guardians: Melissa and Bill Gadient.

     Hometown: Anamosa.

     SAE Project: Pleasure Hills Dairy, family farm.

     FFA Activities: Washington Leadership Conference (WLC), Sub-district CDE Creed Speaking, District CDE Greenhand, Sub-district CDE Prepared Public Speaking, District CDE Chapter Quiz, State CDE Delegate, Livestock Judging, Hay and Grain Show.

     Most memorable FFA activity or accomplishment: Going to WLC and meeting other FFA members with the same passion for agriculture that I have. Getting to see the president with FFA members from Minnesota.

     Future plans: Go to Kirkwood Community College to study to become a veterinary assistant, and work on the family’s dairy farm.

 

     Name: Dylan Hayen.

     Parents: Mike and Judy Hayen.

     Hometown: Monticello.

     SAE: Working at Fareway.

     Activities: Chapter Quiz and Sub-districts, Scavenger Hunt for Fair.

     Most memorable FFA activity or accomplishment: When Rylee Warthen and I scored the same score on the chapter quiz at Sub-districts, and we weren’t even sitting by each other.

     Future Plans: Attending the University of Northern Iowa for business.

 

     Name: Megan Heinrich.

     Office held: Secretary.

     Parents: Lyle and Jodi Heinrich.

     Hometown: Monticello.

     Activities: Sub-districts, Districts, State, 212, National FFA Convention, WLC, Beast of the East Hog Show, Banquet, Fall Fest, FFA Volleyball, fruit baskets for the Food Pantry.

     Most memorable FFA activity or accomplishment: When I received my Iowa FFA Degree at the 2016 State FFA Convention.

     Future plans: I plan on going to Kirkwood Community College to receive my RN degree in nursing. Then I plan on transferring to Mount Mercy University to finish off with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. I am hoping to get a job at one of the hospitals in Cedar Rapids.

 

     Name: Cassidy Russell.

     Parents: Eric and Jane Russell.

     Hometown: Monticello.

     SAE: FFA wreaths, trailer restoration, grain production.

     Activities: 212/360 Conference, WLC, State Ag Mechanics CDE, FFA Conduct of Meetings, FFA Ag Broadcasting/Journalism.

     Most memorable FFA activity or accomplishment: Getting ninth place as a group for State Ag Mechanics CDE with Jacob Lorenzen and Tyler Kuper my sophomore year.

     Future plans: Attend Hawkeye Community College for fire science and have a career in firefighting.

 

     Name: Gavin Timm.

     Parents: John and Joanne Timm.

     Hometown: Monticello.

     SAE: Beef production.

     Activities: Livestock Judging, showing cattle, competing at Sub-districts, officer for two years.

     Most memorable FFA activity or accomplishment: Getting 13th as an individual at District Livestock Judging.

     Future plans: Go to Kirkwood Community College for diesel mechanics.

 

     Name: Rylee Warthen.

     Parents: Al and Barb Warthen.

     Hometown: Monticello.

     Activities: Sub-districts, Districts, 212 Conference, three years of selling more than $1,000 worth of fruit, Greenhand Degree, Chapter Degree.

     Most memorable FFA activity or accomplishment: FFA Volleyball.

     Future plans: Attend the University of Northern Iowa to receive my bachelor’s degree in athletic training.
