Seventh-graders take on five foes

VOLLEYBALL

     The Monticello seventh-grade volleyball team faced five opponents in recent action.

     The Panthers played three matches at Camanche Sept. 27, winning all three. The A team won 21-10, 21-9. Emma Porter had four assists and served six aces. Keziah McQuillen had two kills and five aces. Kinzi Schlarmann had two kills and two aces. Kendra Mescher served six aces. Sami McElmeel had two assists and an ace. Raegan LaGrange had one kill and one ace.

     In the B match, Monticello won 15-9, 15-6. Jordan Fangmann served nine aces, while Gabi Barnhart had two, Abby Sharlow and Kendra Davis had one apiece.

     The Panthers won four sets in the C match, by scores of 15-4, 15-11, 15-7, 15-6. Taylor Gassman served 19 aces, Kendra Jacobs and Claire Hogan served two apiece, while Michelle Stoll, Lake Schnoor and Alex McElmeel had one each.

     On Oct. 1, the Panthers played host to Anamosa in B and C matches only, and won both. The B team won 21-10, 21-17, 15-9. Marisa Kehoe had five aces, Lacie Koppes had four, Sharlow and Davis had three apiece.

     Monticello won the C match 21-15, 23-21, 15-6, 16-14. Serving aces were Jacobs and Schnoor with six apiece, Brenna Wilson with five, Gassman with three and Hogan with two.

     Next up was a date at North Cedar Oct. 2, in which Monticello won two of three matches. The A team scored a 21-17, 19-21, 15-5 victory. McQuillen had three kills and two aces. Mescher had three aces, and Sami McElmeel had two assists. LaGrange also had a kill.

     The Panthers won the B match 15-7, 16-14, 16-14, as Fangmann served seven aces. Barnhart had three kills and three aces. Kehoe, Sharlow and Gassman had three aces each, and Davis had two. Koppes made two assists.

     The C team lost 4-15, 6-15. Rylee Kraus had one kills. Gassman had an ace and an assist, and Jacobs had an ace.

     At Iowa City Regina Oct. 4, the Panthers secured two wins and a tie. The A team won 21-17, 21-14. Schlarmann served six aces. McQuillen had two kills and two aces. Sami McElmeel had two assists and two aces. Mescher had two aces. Porter had an assist and an ace, and LaGrange had one kill.

     Monticello split the B match, losing 5-15 and winning 15-6. Kehoe had three aces; Barnhart and Kehoe had two apiece.

     The Panthers topped the Regina C team 15-3, 15-4, 15-5, 15-8. Serving aces were Hogan with nine, Gassman with seven, Alex McElmeel with six, Kyrie Zimmerman and Schnoor with five apiece, and Jacobs with two.

     Monticello then traveled to Manchester to take on West Delaware Oct. 9, and won one of three matches. The A team lost 8-21, 8-21, 15-13. Mescher had three kills, and Sami McElmeel had three assists.

     The B team also fell, 17-21, 21-12, 13-15. Fangmann had eight aces, Barnhart had four, and Kehoe had two. Sharlow had two kills.

     In the C match, the Panthers won 15-21, 21-17, 15-8. Hogan had four aces, while Gassman and Jacobs had three aces each. Gassman and Kraus each had a kill.
