Sheriff’s Report

A car versus deer accident took place on March 10 at 6:13 a.m. on 20th Avenue. Eric Lee Elkanich, 55, of Anamosa was driving a 2024 Ford Transit Connect when he encountered a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to Elkanich’s vehicle was estimated at $8,000.
A car versus deer accident took place on March 9 at 8:15 p.m. on Highway 64 East. Kenneth Robert Somerville, 58, of Onslow was driving a 2024 Ford Explorer when he encountered a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to Somerville’s vehicle was estimated at $3,000.
A single-vehicle accident took place on March 8 at 12:53 a.m. on County Road E-34. Austin James Lenger, 29, of Anamosa was driving a 2011 Toyota Corolla southbound when it felt the roadway while traversing a curve. Lenger’s vehicle entered the east ditch and struck a utility pole, snapping it off at the base. The vehicle continued southbound before coming to rest on its wheels on 215th Avenue. Lenger fled the scene, but was later transported by EMS to Jones Regional Medical Center for possible injuries. Damage to his vehicle was estimated at $2,500. Damage to utility pole, owned by Alliant Energy, was estimated at $7,000.
A two-vehicle accident took place on March 7 at 9:30 p.m. on Highway 151 South. Bruce Jon Wuertzer, 61, of Dubuque was driving a 2020 Peterbilt semi southbound within the speed limit. Jeffrey Alan Ingles, 33, of Viola was driving a 2010 Acura, also traveling southbound at a higher rate of speed. Ingles failed to recognize the speed difference and struck Wuertzer. Both drivers sustained possible injuries. Ingles was transported to a hospital to be checked out. Damage to Wuertzer’s vehicle was estimated at $500, with $10,000 in damages to Ingles’ vehicle. His vehicle was deemed totaled. Ingles was cited for the accident.
A single-vehicle accident took place on March 7 at 5:43 a.m. on Highway 151. Emily Ashley Owens-Hall, 26, of Rockmart, Ga., was driving a 2005 GMC Envoy XL during a snowstorm. She came to the crest of a hill, lost control, and slid into the median. Owens-Hall also struck a road sign. No injuries were reported. Damage to her vehicle was estimated at $1,500.
