Sheriff's Report

A single-vehicle accident took place on Jan. 13 at 8:05 p.m. on Butterfield Road. Tiffani Kauder, 34, of Cascade was driving a 2012 Chevy Silverado when she lost control due to ice on the roadway. Kauder’s vehicle entered the ditch and continued to slide before resting on a light pole. The pole, owned by Maquoketa Valley REC, was completely damaged, estimated at $5,000. There was also $5,000 in damage to Kauder’s vehicle. No injuries were reported. 

A two-vehicle accident took place on Jan. 17 at 2:15 p.m. near the intersection of Cleveland Street and Sixth Avenue in Cascade. James William Knepper, 44, of Cascade was driving a 2014 Chevy Silverado east on Sixth Avenue. Tina Marie Hunt, 44, of Monticello was driving a 2010 Chevy Malibu south on Cleveland Street. The roads were snow-covered with diminished visibility. Hunt was going uphill when she saw Knepper in her sight. Hunt slid into Knepper’s vehicle. Hunt’s vehicle came to rest after hitting a tree. Knepper was uninjured. Hunt and her passenger, Katherine Rae Recker, 41, of Cascade, were transported by Cascade Ambulance to Jones Regional Medical Center for possible injuries. Knepper’s vehicle sustained approximately $2,000, while Hunt’s vehicle sustained $5,000 in damages. 

A two-vehicle accident took place on Jan. 17 at 4:23 p.m. near the intersection of Arthur Street and Second Avenue in Cascade. Amanda Jane Kauder, 31, of Worthington was driving a 2006 Chevy Silverado east on Second Avenue. Jennifer Rose Drew, 37, of Cascade was driving a 2007 Ford F150 north on Arthur Street. Kauder failed to yield to the right and hit Drew on the front driver’s side. Kauder was uninjured. Drew was transported by Cascade Ambulance to Finley Hospital for a minor concussion and whiplash. Her passenger, Skyler Michelle Wright, 11, of Cascade, also complained of possible injuries. Kauder’s vehicle sustained approximately $2,000 in damages, while Drew’s vehicle sustained $6,000 in damages. 

A two-vehicle accident took place on Jan. 21 at 8:39 a.m. on E. First Street in Anamosa. Jeremiah William Hoyt, 40, of Anamosa was driving a 2017 Ford XPL (an unmarked police car belonging to the Anamosa Police Department). Hoyt was coming from the east and pulled into the alley between S. Booth Street and S. Ford Street. Michael James Richards, 36, of Cedar Rapids was driving a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder as he was backing out of a driveway in the alley. Richards did not see Hoyt pull into the alley as the two vehicles collided. Both drivers were uninjured. Hoyt’s vehicle sustained $2,500 in damages, while Richards’ vehicle sustained $2,000. Richards was found at fault for failure to yield to the right of way. 

A car versus deer accident took place on Jan. 23 at 6:30 p.m. on Highway 64. Rachel Blair Wentworth, 20, of Preston was driving a 2014 Chrysler 2TR when she encountered a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Wentworth’s vehicle sustained an estimated $3,500 in damages.
