Sheriff's Report

A single-vehicle accident took place on Feb. 9 at 5:26 a.m. near the intersection of Old Highway 151 and Richland Road. Noah Kenneth Niemer, 17, of Manchester was driving a 2009 Kia Sportage when he fell asleep at the wheel, striking a utility pole owned by Alliant Energy. Niemer left the roadway into the right ditch before hitting the pole, causing downed power lines and power outages in the area. No injuries were reported. Niemer was cited for failure to maintain control. There was approximately $6,000 in damages to the vehicle and $5,000 in damages to the utility pole.

A single-vehicle accident took place on Feb. 9 at 11:30 a.m. on Highway 151. Gregory Alan Harris, 65, of Cedar Rapids was driving a 2008 Nissan Sentra southbound when he lost control and slid into the ditch. No injuries were reported. Harris’ vehicle sustained approximately $1,500 in damages.

A single-vehicle accident took place on Feb. 9 at 12:18 p.m. on Highway 151. Emiko Milton, 50, of Dubuque was driving a 2009 Chevy Traverse northbound when she lost control. Milton crossed the median and the southbound lane of traffic before entering the west ditch. No injuries were reported. Her vehicle sustained an estimated $2,000 in damages.

A single-vehicle accident took place on Feb. 10 at 9:30 p.m. Gerald Gronewold, 62, of Galena, Ill., was driving a 2014 Buick Enclave when he lost control on County Road X-40. No injuries were reported. Damage to Gronewold’s vehicle is estimated at $5,000.

A single-vehicle accident took place on Feb. 11 at 12:14 p.m. on Lead Mine Road. Jayson Mark Wiggins, 55, of Maquoketa was driving a 2019 Nissan Titan northbound when he met a car traveling southbound. Wiggins moved over, hit the snow on the side of the road, and lost control. He ended up sliding into a tree. Wiggins sustained minor injuries. There was approximately $10,000 in damages to his vehicle.

A car versus deer accident took place on Feb. 12 at 6:40 a.m. on Highway 38. Kristine Ann Brown, 49, of Olin was driving a 2016 Chevy Equinox when she encountered a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Brown’s vehicle sustained an estimated $5,000 in damages.
