Sheriff's Report

     A car versus deer accident took place on May 22 at 6:42 a.m. on County Road X-44/Amber Road. Michael Anthony Miner, 38, of Monticello was driving a 2018 RAM 5500 when he encountered a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Miner’s vehicle sustained an estimated $1,500 in damages.

     A high-speed chase from Delaware County ended up in Monticello on May 12 around 5 p.m. Michael Ray Teel, 36, of Cedar Rapids was driving a 2017 Dodge RAM when he turned onto W. First Street/County Road D-62 at a high rate of speed, eluding county deputies and city officers. Manchester deputies Matthew Menard and Keith Rowley, both driving a 2015 Chevy Tahoe, tried to stop Teel in a safe manner. Both patrol cars sustained $10,000 in damages. The deputies were uninjured. Teel was eventually taken into custody outside Monticello where the chase came to an end. His vehicle sustained $10,000 in damages as well. He was charged with several traffic citations as well as assault on a law enforcement officer, eluding, and violation of a no-contact order.

     A two-vehicle accident took place on May 22 at 2:59 p.m. near the intersection of Linn-Jones Road and Dubuque Road/Highway 151. Alex James Moore, 22, of Mount Vernon was driving a 2013 Nissan NV 2500 when he attempted to cross the highway. Moore pulled in front of Arnella Leonice Comstock, 69, of Oxford Junction, driving a 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan. Comstock collided with Moore, sending both vehicles into opposite ditches. Moore was cited for failure to yield. His vehicle sustained $1,500 in damages and he was uninjured. Comstock’s vehicle sustained $2,000 in damages and she was transported by Anamosa EMS to St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids for minor injuries.

     A car versus deer accident took place on May 23 at 12:35 a.m. on Highway 151. John August Kubecka, 19, of Marion was driving a 2005 Honda Civic when he encountered a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Kubecka’s vehicle sustained an estimated $5,000 in damages.

     A car versus deer accident took place on May 29 at 5:45 a.m. on Highway 151. Jolene Marie Sanger, 24, of Dyersville was driving a 2018 Nissan Murano when she encountered a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Murano’s vehicle sustained an estimated $8,000 in damages.

     A car versus deer accident took place on May 28 at 9:10 p.m. on Highway 151. Alice Louise Springer, 25, of Durango, Colo., was driving a 2013 Dodge Caravan when she encountered a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Springer’s vehicle sustained an estimated $2,000 in damages.

     A single-vehicle accident took place on May 31 at 6:56 p.m. on County Road E-45. Lance Lee Goldsmith, 58, of Martelle was driving a 2013 Ford F150 when failed to negotiate a left curve. Goldsmith’s vehicle continued into the ditch approximately 100 yards before coming to rest partially on the shoulder. Goldsmith struck a street sign and broke the wooden post owned by Jones County Secondary Roads, causing $100 in damages. No injuries were reported. Goldsmith was cited for failure to maintain control. His vehicle sustained $6,500 in damages.

     A car versus deer accident took place on May 29 at 9:40 p.m. on Highway 151. Justin Lawrence Bruce Brand, 34, of Papillion, Neb., was driving a 2018 Chevy Colorado pulling a camper when he encountered a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Brand’s vehicle sustained an estimated $5,000 in damages.
