Sheriff's Report

     A single-vehicle accident took place on Nov. 1 at 1:30 a.m. on N. Maple Street in Monticello. Jacob Black, 24, of Solon was driving a 2010 Nissan Altima when he lost control and struck a light pole. No injuries were reported. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $2,000. There was also $500 in damages to the light pole owned by the City of Monticello.

     A car versus deer accident took place on Oct. 31 at 7:40 p.m. on Highway 38. Donald Dean Eilers, 72, of Scotch Grove was driving a 2007 Ford Edge SEL when he encountered a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Eilers’ vehicle sustained an estimated $4,000 in damages.

     A car versus deer accident took place on Oct. 29 at 9:15 p.m. on Highway 151. Cody Lee Fry, 32, of Talala, Okla., was driving a 2017 RAM 3500 when he encountered a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Fry’s vehicle sustained an estimated $4,500 in damages.

     A single-vehicle accident took place on Oct. 29 at 10:27 p.m. near County Home Road E-23. Michael Andre Rickette, Jr., 22, of Iowa City was driving a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix when he lost control, entered the south ditch. Rickette’s vehicle rolled multiple times as he was ejected from the vehicle before it became engulfed in flames. Rickette was fatally injured as a result of the accident and died at the scene. His vehicle sustained approximately $7,500 in damages.

     A single-vehicle accident took place on Oct. 31 at 10:24 a.m. on County Home Road E-23. Jeffery David Furyk, 61, of Monticello was driving a 2007 Sterling semi tractor when he lost control. The tractor rolled on the driver’s side, causing diesel fuel and fertilizer to spill. Furyk sustained minor injuries. There was $5,000 in damages to the tractor.

     A car versus deer accident took place on Nov. 3 at 5:35 p.m. on County Road E-45. Karen Marlene Secrist, 51, of Oxford Junction, was driving a 2012 Chevy Impala when she encountered a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Secrist’s vehicle sustained an estimated $4,000 in damages.
