Sheriff's Report

     A single-vehicle accident took place on Feb. 12 at 12:11 a.m. on County Road E-34. Zachary Donald Twachtmann, 29, of Anamosa was driving a 2015 GMC Sierra K1500 SL when he lost control and entered the ditch. Upon entering the ditch, Twachtmann became wedged between a utility pole and a guide wire. His vehicle came to rest on top of a phone box. No injuries were reported. Damage to Twachtmann’s vehicle amounted to $3,000. There was also $300 in damages to the Alliant Energy utility pole, and $300 in damages to the telephone box owned by the Martelle Telephone Company. Twachtmann was cited for failure to maintain control.

     A single-vehicle accident took place on Feb. 14 at 4:01 a.m. on County Road E-45. Morgan Jessica Sander, 21, of Lowden was driving a 2013 Kia Optima Ex traveling westbound when she crossed the centerline and hit a snowdrift. Sander re-enters the roadway, crosses the centerline again and entered the south ditch where it came to rest. The Jones County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a vehicle on fire but it is unknown why Sander’s vehicle caught fire. No injuries were reported. Damage to Sander’s vehicle was estimated at $15,000.

      A two-vehicle accident took place on Feb. 17 at 8:02 a.m. near the intersection of Highway 64/Main Street and State Street in Wyoming. Dennis Carl Christiansen, 62, of Wyoming was driving a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer west on 64. Emma Lea Gerdes, 16, of Oxford Junction was driving a 2007 Ford 500 SE as she attempted to cross the intersection. Due to high piles of snow at the intersection visually obstructing traffic, neither driver could see each other as they collided. Christiansen was uninjured, while Gerdes complained of possible injuries.  Christiansen’s vehicle sustained $2,000 in damages. Gerdes’ vehicle took on $3,000 in damages.
