Sheriff's Report
• A motorist was cited with failure to yield after a two-vehicle crash sent another motorist to the hospital.
Eloise Marie Pike, of Monticello, sustained minor injuries in the incident and was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital for treatment.
A crash report states Marie Carol McCracken, of Anamosa, was traveling on Shaw Road at 1:42 p.m. Sept. 7 and had stopped at the intersection with U.S. 151. At the same time, Pike was traveling southbound on U.S. 151. The crash report says McCracken told authorities she looked briefly, did not see a vehicle and proceeded into the intersection. However, Pike was also driving through the intersection and McCracken struck Pike, causing Pike’s vehicle to roll and come to rest on its top in the median.
Pike’s 2012 Nissan Murano sustained an estimated $20,000, the crash report states. McCracken’s 2010 Toyota RAV-4 sustained an estimated $10,000 in damage.
• A car vs. deer incident took place at 12:22 a.m. Sept. 6 on County Road E34.
A crash report states Laxmi Basnet, of Cedar Rapids, was driving on the highway and struck a deer in the road, causing minor injury to a passenger door to Basnet’s 2024 Honda CRV, which sustained an estimated $1,500 in damage.
• A motorist from Anamosa attempted a U-turn on a highway and caused a two-vehicle crash, according to a crash report.
Tyler Dane McCloud was driving south on State Highway 1 near Gombert Drive when he pulled onto the shoulder and began making a U-turn, the report states. In doing to, McCloud failed to yield and collided with a vehicle driven by Austin Lee Hilton, of Iowa City, who was driving behind McCloud, the report states.
McCloud’s 2007 Chevrolet HHR sustained an estimated $10,000 in damage and was totaled. Hilton’s 2021 Subaru sustained an estimated $9,000 in damage.
• A deer crossed the path of a motorist on Sept. 11.
The crash report states Juan Michel Garcia Figueredo, of Chelsea, Iowa, was driving on County Road X28 at 7:50 p.m. Sept. 11 when he struck the animal on the highway.
Damage to Garcia Figueredo’s 2017 Dodge Durango was estimated at $5,000.
• A motorist from Iowa City hit a deer at 9:46 p.m. Sept. 10.
The crash report states Faith Jepkemboi Sang was driving on U.S. 151 northbound and hit the animal with the driver’s side of the vehicle.
Sang’s 2025 Toyota Corolla sustained an estimated $15,000 in damage.
• Eric Daniel Luchtenburg, of Anamosa, was cited with failure to maintain control and no insurance following a one-vehicle rollover crash Sept. 8.
A crash report states a Jones County deputy at 6:30 a.m. Sept. 8 was dispatched to a crash scene on Forest Chapel Road near 212th Avenue south of Anamosa. Upon arrival, the deputy found a truck on its side and noted the engine was cold.
“It was apparent that the vehicle was traveling west toward County Road E34, lost control, entered the south ditch and rolled over onto the driver’s side,” the deputy’s repot states.
The deputy later contacted Luchtenberg, who admitted to being involved in the crash around 10 p.m. the night before. The deputy said Luchtenburg walked home after the crash.
Damage to the 2008 Ford F-350 was estimated at $15,000; it was totaled.
