Sheriff's Report

• A deer vs. car incident took place at 5:59 p.m. Nov. 17.

A crash report states Scott Dean Harms, of Cedar Rapids, was driving on Highway 64 and hit the animal.

Damage to Harms’s 2011 Toyota RAV-4 was estimated at $1,500.

 

• Three people -- two motorists and a passenger -- from Monticello sustained minor injuries in a two-vehicle crash at 3:36 p.m. Nov. 13.

A crash report states drivers Kelly Kae Behrends and Mary Claire Eggiman, as well as passenger Jerry Lee Eggiman, suffered minor injuries in the incident and were all transferred to Jones Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The report states Behrends was driving southbound in the 16000 block of U.S. 151 as Mary Eggiman exited a residential driveway. Eggiman did not yield the right-of-way and the two vehicles collided despite Behrends taking evasive action, the report states.

Damage to Eggiman’s 2002 Dodge Caravan was estimated at $5,000; it was deemed a total loss. The 2019 GMC Terrain driven by Behrends was also totaled after it, too, sustained an estimated $5,000 in damage.

 

• A Monticello motorist sustained minor injuries in a crash at 8:07 a.m. Nov. 12 at the intersection of County Road X40 and 35th Street.

Kevin David Prull, of Monticello, was injured but did not require medical transport, according to a crash report.

Reece Philip Scharff, of Mechanicsville, was driving eastbound on 35th Street and failed on stop at the stop sign with X40, the report states. Scharff blew the stop sign and collided with a tractor trailer driven by Prull and owned by Innovative Ag, the report states. The impact of the collision caused the semi truck to flip onto its passenger side, the report states.

Scharff admitted to running the stop sign and was issued a citation, according to the crash report.

The 1994 Dodge Ram Scharff was driving was totaled after sustaining an estimated $16,000 in damage. The 2009 Peterbilt driven by Prull was also totaled after sustaining an estimated $60,000 in damage.
