Sheriff's Report

     A two-vehicle accident took place on Dec. 3 at 4:03 p.m. on Highway 136. Deke Rodney Heister, 37, of Onslow was driving a 2002 GMC Sierra as he pursued Hunter Andrew Vanderlinden, 21, of LaCrosse, Wis., who was driving a 2009 Chevy Malibu in a road rage incident. Heister chased Vanderlinden at speeds of over 100mph, and sideswiped his car. Vanderlinden ended up on the shoulder of the roadway. Heister then approached Vanderlinden and held a knife to his throat before leaving the scene. Heister was apprehended a short time later and charged with going armed with intent, reckless driving, no insurance, and leaving the scene of an accident. Both drivers were uninjured. Vanderlinden’s vehicle sustained approximately $1,500 in damages; with Heister’s vehicle sustaining approximately $200 in damages.

     A two-vehicle accident took place on Nov. 25 at 11:59 p.m. near 50th Avenue and 70th Street. Harry James Otten, 19, of Oxford Junction, was driving a 1998 Toyota Camry. He reported to the Sheriff’s Deputy that he was run off the road by Griffin Houston Hansen, 19, of Cedar Rapids who was driving a 2015 Chrysler 200S. Hansen then collided with Otten, sending Otten into a utility pole owned by Maquoketa Valley Electric Coop. Hansen then fled the scene. Otten sustained minor injuries. Hansen’s injuries were unknown. Otten’s vehicle sustained approximately $5,000 in damages; while Hansen’s vehicle sustained approximately $100 in damages. Damage to the utility pole was reported at $369,982. Charges are pending against Hansen.

     A car versus deer accident took place on Dec. 1 at 6:38 p.m. on Highway 151. Jeremiah Michael Welch, 23, of Folsom, Calif., was driving a 2013 Honda Civic when he came in contact with a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Welch’s vehicle sustained approximately $12,000 in damages.

     A car versus deer accident took place on Dec. 5 at 5:03 p.m. on Highway 151. Ethan Leslie Small, 25, of Bernard, was driving a 2014 Chevy Cruze LT when he came in contact with a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Small’s vehicle sustained approximately $3,000 in damages.

     On Dec. 7 at 6:31 a.m., a Jones County Sheriff’s Deputy found an unoccupied overturned 2003 Chevy Silverado on 80th Street. The vehicle is owned by Dane Clark, 32, of Anamosa. No injuries were reported. Clark’s vehicle sustained approximately $5,000 in damages.
