Sheriff's Report

     A car versus deer accident took place on May 24 at 12:13 a.m. on Highway 151. Daniel James Dettmers, 45, of McFarland, Wis., was driving a 2017 Chevy Malibu when he encountered a deer on the roadway. No injuries were reported. Dettmers’ vehicle sustained approximately $6,000 in damages.

     A car versus deer accident took place on May 22 at 12:12 p.m. on Highway 151 and 135^th Avenue. Tracy E. Thom, 35, of Chicago, Ill., was driving a 2016 Toyota RAV4 when she encountered a deer on the roadway. No injuries were reported. Thom’s vehicle sustained approximately $10,000 in damages.

     A two-vehicle accident took place on May 22 at 4:11 p.m. on Highway 136. Sidney J. Benjamin, 81, of Manteno, Ill., was driving a 2016 Freightliner Semi Truck north on Highway 136. He was beginning to turn west on Richland Road and failed to notice any vehicles coming. Paul Edward Mausser, 65, of Epworth, was driving a 2002 Dodge RAM 2500 attempted to avoid Benjamin by swerving to the right. The two vehicles were unable to avoid contact and struck each other on the driver’s side. Benjamin’s vehicle came to a stop in the middle of the roadway. Mausser came to a stop in the ditch. Benjamin was uninjured, and was charged with failure to yield upon left turn. Mausser sustained minor injuries and was transported to a hospital by private vehicle. Benjamin’s vehicle sustained approximately $10,000 in damages; Mausser’s vehicle sustained approximately $10,000 in damages as well.
