Sheriff's Report

     A one-vehicle accident took place on Nov. 7 at 3:02 p.m. on Lade View Court. Kathryn Ingrid Slater, 39, of Olin was driving a 2008 Chevy Trailblazer, delivering mail, when her vehicle accidentally went through the garage. No injuries were reported. Damage to the garage door, owned by Joni Elizabeth Wiese, of Anamosa, was estimated at $1,800. Slater’s vehicle sustained an estimated $5,000 in damages.

     A two-vehicle accident took place on Nov. 9 at 1:30 p.m. on Highway 151. Stephen Gale Chapin, 49, of Cedar Rapids was driving a 2006 Sterling LT8500 (dump truck) as he turned south onto 151 from Forest Chapel Road. Chapin stated his flashing lights were on as vehicles passed him. Kimberly Kay Kurth, 58, of Anamosa was driving a 2017 Buick Encore following a line of cars headed southbound on 151. As she came up to slow-moving vehicle, Kurth thought she had enough time to get over but then realized she was going to hit the back of the dump truck. She turned left and hit the back end of Chapin’s truck. Kurth experienced minor injuries; Chapin did not report any injuries. Kurth was found at fault for following too close and swerving to avoid a vehicle/object. Kurth’s vehicle sustained an estimated $30,000 in damages. Chapin’s vehicle sustained $5,000 in damages.

     A car versus deer accident took place on Nov. 9 at 1:50 p.m. on County Road X-31. Donald Earl Barnes, 80, of Anamosa was driving a 2005 Dodge Caravan when he encountered a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Barnes’ vehicle sustained an estimated $2,500 in damages.

     A car versus deer accident took place on Nov. 14 at 7:23 p.m. on Highway 151. John Edward Moravec, 55, of Springville was driving a 2001 Toyota Tacoma when he encountered a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Moravec’s vehicle sustained an estimated $5,000 in damages.
