Sheriff's Report

     A car versus deer accident took place on Nov. 15 at 8:40 p.m. on Highway 151. Jeffrey Scott Thiel, 52, of Fond Du Lac, Wis., was driving a 2016 Honda truck when he encountered a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Thiel’s vehicle sustained an estimated $5,000 in damages.

     A one-vehicle rollover took place on Nov. 16 at 1:18 p.m. on 95th Avenue. Jeremy James Lafrenz, 16, of Onslow was driving a 2004 Chevy Venture northbound when he met an oncoming vehicle approaching the stop sign. Lafrenz swerved several times, over-correcting himself, causing him to enter the ditch. The vehicle rolled and came to rest on all four tires. The roadway conditions were also reported to be slippery. Lafrenz was transported by Wyoming Ambulance to Jones Regional Medical Center for minor injuries. His vehicle sustained an estimated $7,000 in damages.

     A one-vehicle accident took place on Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. on County Road E-28/Ridge Road. Donald Nathanael Wendel, 89, of Westmount, Ill., was driving a 2015 Kia Soul when he fell asleep. When Wendel woke up, his vehicle was in the north ditch. No injuries were reported. His vehicle sustained an estimated $10,000 in damages.

     A car versus deer accident took place on Nov. 18 at 5:27 p.m. on Highway 151. Rebecca Sue Cohen, 43, of Marion was driving a 2013 Jeep GCH when she encountered a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Cohen’s vehicle sustained an estimated $5,000 in damages.

     A two-vehicle accident took place on Nov. 18 at 8:30 a.m. on Highway 38 and Maple Street in Olin. William Raymond Heldt, 73, of Olin was driving a 2007 Buick Lacrosse CXL southbound on 38, attempting to turn east on Maple Street. Heldt turned into the bright sun and did not see a vehicle at the stop sign. Ricky Lee Clark, 28, of Olin was driving a 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander LS as he was stopped at the stop sign. Heldt cut the corner, and struck Clark nearly head-on. No injuries were reported. Both Heldt and Clark’s vehicles sustained an estimated $2,000 in damages.

     A two-vehicle accident took place on Nov. 17 at 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of E. Main Street and Cleveland Street in Anamosa. Tish Erin Fritze, 34, of Onslow was driving a 2013 Ford Edge eastbound on Main St. Ronald Lee Bartlett, 27, of Anamosa was driving a 2001 Chevy K1500 Tahoe northbound at a stop sign in the alley. Bartlett couldn’t see oncoming traffic around legally parked vehicles and crept out into the street, hitting Fritze. No injuries were reported. Fritze’s vehicle sustained an estimates $3,000 in damages; while Bartlett’s vehicle sustained $1,000 in damages.

     Jones County Sheriff’s Deputy Jason Feldmann was requested to assist the Manchester Police Department and Delaware County Sheriff’s Office in a high-speed chase that ended outside of Monticello. Travis Alan Camp, 30, of Anamosa was driving a 1999 Dodge Durango when he entered the ditch near the intersection of Hardscrabble Road and Timber Road. The vehicle ended up partially in the creek. Camp was cited for driving while under suspension, reckless driving, and failure to maintain control. His passenger, XX Anderson, of X, was cited for XX. No injuries were reported. The vehicle sustained an estimated $2,000 in damages.

     A car versus deer accident took place on Nov. 19 at 8:13 p.m. on Highway 38 and Jackson Street near Olin. Jaime Lynn Crowley, 39, of Marion was driving a 2005 Nissan Altima S when she encountered a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Crowley’s vehicle sustained an estimated $2,000 in damages.
