Sheriff's Report

     A car versus deer accident took place on Jan. 3 at 6:04 p.m. on Highway 64. Diane Marie Saunders, 60, of Maquoketa was driving a 2018 Hyundai Tucson SE when she encountered a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Saunders’ vehicle sustained an estimated $1,500 in damages.

     A single-vehicle rollover took place on Jan. 1 at 1:51 a.m. at the intersection of Fairview Road/X-34 and County Road X-28. Tyler Andrew Herzberger, 26, of Toddville was driving a 1999 Dodge Durango on the ice-covered roadway when he lost control. The vehicle ended up in a field, upside down. The driver was later located following the accident. Herzberger’s injuries were unknown. His vehicle sustained an estimated $2,500 in damages.

     A car versus deer accident took place on Jan. 3 at 10:38 p.m. on Highway 136. Tommy Dean Otten, 57, of Oxford Junction was driving a 1997 Ford Escort LX when he encountered a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Otten’s vehicle sustained an estimated $1,500 in damages.

     A car versus deer accident took place on Jan. 3 at 6:23 p.m. on County Road E-45. Mackenzie Taylor Yohe, 21, of Clarence was driving a 2009 Pontiac VIB when she encountered a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Yohe’s vehicle sustained an estimated $10,000 in damages.

     A one-vehicle accident took place on Jan. 9 at 8:30 a.m. near the intersection of 35th Street and 145th Avenue. Charles Raymond Townsend, 62, of Olin was driving a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee when he lost control. The vehicle rolled onto its top and ended up in the east ditch. Townsend sustained minor injuries. He was cited for failure to maintain control. There was approximately $1,000 in damages to a metal culvert owned by Jones County Secondary Roads. Townsend’s vehicle sustained an estimated $2,000 in damages.

     A two-vehicle accident took place on Dec. 27 at 6:50 p.m. at the intersection of 32nd Street and Highway 38. Darin Michael Secrist, 53, of Oxford Junction was driving a 2005 Ford F250 south on 38 when he activated his turn signal to turn left onto 32nd Street. Prior to making the turn, Secrist was struck in the rear by Andrew Robert Reinert, 21, of Dubuque, who was driving a 2005 Dodge SD. Reinert stated he was unable to stop, causing the collision. Both drivers suffered minor injuries. Reinert was cited for failure to maintain control. Secrist’s vehicle sustained an estimated $7,500 in damages. Reinert’s vehicle had $15,000 in damages.
