Sheriff's Report

     A two-vehicle accident took place on Feb. 2 at 7:30 a.m. on Highway 151. Christopher Warren Riches, 30, of Anamosa was driving a 2013 Dodge Durango R/T on County Road X-40 approaching Highway 151. Riches lost traction due to road conditions and slid through the stop sign, and t-boned a northbound vehicle. That vehicle, a 2000 Chevy S10, was driven by Leonard Carl Clay, 66, of Cedar Rapids. Both vehicles ended up in the median. No injuries were reported. Riches’ vehicle sustained $15,000 in damages, while Clay’s vehicle sustained $5,000. Riches was cited for registration violation, no insurance-accident related, and failure to stop in assured clear distance.

     A car versus deer accident took place on Feb. 3 at 5:45 a.m. on County Road X-40. Kylie Autumn Flanegan, 22, of Mechanicsville was driving a 2011 Ford Taurus when she encountered a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Flanegan’s vehicle sustained an estimated $7,000 in damages.

     A two-vehicle accident took place at the intersection 20th Avenue and Bunker Hill Road. Lindsey Kay Klostermann, 32, of Anamosa was driving a 2005 Ford Taurus on 20th Avenue. She attempted to go around a semi that was stuck on the icy roadway when she got stuck herself. Aaron Bradley Kurtenbach, 22, of Zwingle was driving a 2006 Dodge Ram 25000 and pulling a large double axel trailer. The trailer was not equipped with brakes. Kurtenbach was northbound on 20th Avenue and saw Klostermann and the semi. He slammed on his brakes, but was unable to stop. Kurtenbach ended up colliding with the rear of Klostermann’s vehicle. Both Klostermann and Kurtenbach were uninjured. Klostermann had two minor children in her vehicle. A 3-year-old was injured and transported to Jones Regional Medical Center by Midland Ambulance. The driver of the semi, Roger Wayne Johnston, 58, of Arpin, Wis., was uninjured. Klostermann was cited for no insurance-accident related.
