Sheriff's Report

A two-vehicle accident took place on April 27 at 3:16 a.m. on Highway 151. Armin C. Peterson, 62, of Viroqua, Wis., was driving a 2014 Freightliner Semi northbound when he was hit head-on by Tyrone Battle, 56, of Porterville, Calif. Battle was driving a 2005 Mercedes BTM. Battle admitted to driving the wrong way on the highway. He was charged with driving on wrong side of roadway, no insurance, and operation without registration. Peterson sustained minor injuries and was seen by medics on scene. Battle was taken by Anamosa Ambulance to Jones Regional Medical Center for his injuries. His vehicle sustained $15,000 in damages, while the semi also sustained $15,000 in damages. 

A single-vehicle accident took place on April 27 at 3:30 p.m. on Highway 151 and Shaw Road. Henry James Johnson, 20, of Fairfield, Conn., was driving a 2000 Cadillac DeVille when he lost control on slush and ice traveling over the Wapsipinicon River Bridge. Johnson left the roadway, entered the ditch, and ended up in the parking lot at Scooters Bar & Grill. No injuries were reported. Johnson’s vehicle sustained $5,000 in damages. 

A single-vehicle accident took place on April 4 at 6 a.m. on County E-45. Damion Paul Liebel, 20, of Anamosa was driving a 2009 Dodge Caliber SXT eastbound on E-45 when he crossed the centerline, went into the ditch and rolled the vehicle. The car came to rest on its wheels. The extent of Liebel’s injuries was unknown. He was also driving a car registered to another owner. The vehicle sustained $10,000 in damages. There was also $100 in damages to a road sign owned by Jones County. 

A two-vehicle accident took place on April 24 at 5:27 p.m. on Highway 136. Kenneth Robert Somerville, 52, of Onslow was driving a 2004 International MX210 tractor hauling anhydrous. Somerville activated his left turn signal to pull into a field when Robert Louis Leonard, 87, of Onslow struck his left front tire. Leonard was driving a 2007 Chevy Colorado. He entered the ditch, lost control on the roadway, and rolled his vehicle. Somerville was uninjured and his tractor was not damaged. Leonard was transported by private vehicle to Jones Regional Medical Center for minor injuries. His vehicle sustained $15,000 in damages. 

A car versus deer accident took place on April 29 at 8:52 p.m. on County Road E-17. Kate Marie Aitchison, 21, of Monticello was driving a 2008 Mercury Milan when she encountered a deer on the roadway. No injuries were reported. Aitchison’s vehicle sustained $5,000 in damages. 

A car versus deer accident took place on May 2 at 7:35 p.m. on County Road X-44. Kelly Lynn Versendaal, 44, of Wyoming was driving a 2012 GMC Terrain SLE when she encountered a deer on the roadway. No injuries were reported. Versendaal’s vehicle sustained $7,500 in damages.
