Shirley King Aug. 15, 1937-Jan. 3, 2017

     Shirley King, age 79, died Jan. 3, 2017 at Jones Regional Hospital following a brief illness.

     Funeral services will be held 10:30 Monday morning, Jan. 9, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church, Monticello with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery. Pastor Emory Gillespie will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello.      Surviving is her husband Glen; two daughters, Melinda (Scott) Michaelis, Springville, Christine (Gerald) Dutcher, Long Lane, Mo.; three grandchildren, Makayla Burkle, Jamie Chappell, Sierra (Jared) Parker; four great-grandchildren, Natalie Burkle, Jaxson Chappell, Easton and Huck Parker; three siblings, Lavern Ebel, Williamsburg, Evelyn (Ivan) Strief, Cedar Rapids, Larry (Carol) Ebel, Eau Claire, Wis. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Luetta Schauffner; and a brother, Melvin Ebel.

     Shirley Ann Ebel was born Aug. 15, 1937 at Marengo, Iowa. She was the daughter of Louis and Lillie Calvert, Ebel. Shirley graduated from the Williamsburg High School and continued her education at the Cedar Rapids Business College. She then was employed at Allen Motors in Cedar Rapids. Shirley Ebel and Glen King were married on Oct. 30, 1960 at the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. The couple made their home in the Monticello Community where Shirley worked at the Senior Home.

     Shirley was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She and Glen loved to go camping and were members of the Pete’s Flea’s Camping Club. She loved to garden and can her produce, and grow flowers as well. What she really enjoyed most in life was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
