Soil health workshop to be held in Peosta

     Farmers, agronomists, and those interested in learning more about soil health are invited to attend the soil health workshop being offered in Peosta Feb. 25 at the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety (NECAS), Northeast Iowa Community College Campus (8324 NICC Drive, Peosta).

     Registration starts at 9 a.m. with the workshop going from 9:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. The agenda for the workshop includes an Introduction to Soil Health by Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) Area Resource Soil Scientist, Neil Sass and an Introduction to Regenerative Agriculture by ISU Extension and Outreach Ag Engineer, Brian Dougherty. Followed by Farmer Kevin Glanz who will share his experiences with cover crops. A sponsored catered lunch will be served. In the afternoon, Lance Gunderson, of Regen Ag Labs, will discuss how to interpret Soil Health Tests, including the Haney Soil Test. The workshop will conclude with a farmer panel discussing their experience with no-till, cover crop planting, grazing & management.

     Representatives from the USDA’s NRCS, and the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship – Division of Soil Conservation and Water Quality, will be in attendance and available to answer questions.  Soil commissioners from the Delaware, Dubuque, and Jones Soil & Water Conservation Districts (SWCD) will be in attendance as well.
