Panther Football

Camps are set

     The annual Monticello Panther Football Camps have been scheduled, according to head varsity coach Wes Wilson.

     The camp for grades 3-8 will be Monday through Thursday, July 31-Aug. 3, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. each day. Cost is $50.

     The camp for grades K-2 will be Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 7-8, 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Cost is $25.

     Forms can be picked up at Monticello Sports, or emailed by contacting coach Wilson, wes.wilson@monticello.k12.ia.us.  Camp walk-ins are welcome.

 

Tri-Rivers

all-conference

softball listed

     Four Maquoketa Valley players, and one from Midland, were among those selected to the Tri-Rivers all-conference softball team for the 2017 season.

     The players are chosen by conference coaches. The area honored players are listed below.

MAQUOKETA VALLEY

     First team: Payton Ries, junior infielder; Rejji Smith, junior infielder.

     Second team: Brianna Mensen, senior first baseman.

     Honorable mention: Abby Holtz, junior.

MIDLAND

     Honorable mention: Emma Dusanek.

 

Introduction to

geocaching event

is scheduled

     Looking for an adventure on Saturday, July 29? Come on over to Central Park for a fun-filled afternoon of learning how to geocache and finding some hidden prizes with the naturalist intern, Anna James.

     This event will take place in the Central Park Nature Center basement at 1 p.m. There will be a short introduction to geocaching, followed by an outdoor geo-search to look for geocaches. Make sure to wear your hiking shoes and bring lots of water, sunscreen, and insect repellent for our adventure. A limited number of GPS units will be available for families to use.

     Participants can also bring their own GPS units or download a geocaching app to their phones. If you have any questions, please contact Michele at 319-481-7987 or at naturalist@co.jones.ia.us.

 

Atlanta Braves to

hold tryout camps

     The Atlanta Braves Major League Baseball team will host several open tryout camps throughout the U.S., including one in Iowa, according to local Braves scout Tom Beadle of Monticello.

     The Iowa camp will be Tuesday, Aug. 8, 9 a.m. at North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City.

     Players ages 16-23 are encouraged to attend. Participants should bring their own gloves and shoes. The Braves will provide bats and baseballs.
