Gadient wins

pentathlon

     Mount Mercy University senior Rachel Gadient won the pentathlon with a personal best and school record total of 3,361 points during the Heart of America Indoor Conference Track and Field Championships Feb. 21-22 in Maryville, Mo.

     Gadient’s win qualified her for the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championship under the “B” standard. That event is scheduled for March 5-7 in Brookings, S.D.

     She is a graduate of Monticello High School, and the daughter of Bill and Melissa Gadient.

 

Nature photo

contest begins,

goes digital

     Do you have a great nature photograph taken someplace in Jones County? Maybe it’s on your Facebook page or on your phone.  Here’s your chance to show it off!

     This year, entries are going digital. Entering the 2020 Jones County Conservation Nature Photography Contest is easy. Entry forms are due by May 31 and can be downloaded at https://www.jonescountyiowa.org/downloads. All digital photos and completed entry forms need to be emailed to cosnervationofficemg@co.jones.ia.us.

     First through third place prizes will be awarded for the following categories: People in Nature, Plants in Nature, Scenic Jones County, Animals in Nature, and Jones County by Drone. You don’t have to be an expert photographer to enter. This contest is for fun and is open to all ages and abilities.

     Examples of good topics include birds at your feeders, beautiful sunsets, the wrath of Mother Nature, family members gardening, fishing, hunting, hiking, sledding, or playing at the beach, a beautiful spring wildflower, a close up picture of a spider or creepy crawler, that huge morel mushroom, or fox kits near their den.

     Selected photos will be on display on the Jones County Conservation website at https://www.jonescountyiowa.org/current-projects-and-news and at the Central Park Nature Center. First through third place winners will receive prizes including free Central Park camping, paddleboat, and kayaking certificates. Photos entered should be taken in Jones County.
