Starlighters announces upcoming auditions

     Starlighters II Theatre will be holding open auditions for the upcoming production of Beth Henley’s “The Miss Firecracker Contest.”

     Auditions will be held at the theatre at 200 E. Main St. in Anamosa on April 17-19 at 7 p.m. Anyone is welcome to audition; no prior experience in necessary. Those interested in auditioning should come prepared to do cold readings from the script. More information can be found at starlighters.org/upcoming-auditions.

     Available roles:

     • Carnelle Scott, 24, the beauty contestant

     • Popeye Jackson, 23, Carnelle’s seamstress

     • Elain Rutledge, 32, Carnelle’s first cousin, a beauty

     • Delmount Williams, 28, Carnelle’s first cousin, Elain’s brother

     • Mac Sam, 36, the balloon man

     • Tessy Mahoney, 23, the beauty contest coordinator

     From Pulitzer Prize winner Beth Henley (“Crimes of the Heart”), this play tells the story of a small-town beauty queen trying to save her tarnished reputation and leave town in a blaze of glory by winning the Miss Firecracker Contest. When her beautiful cousin, Elain, and Elain’s estranged older brother return to town, situations become more complicated in this dark Southern comedy. Join this eclectic cast of characters as they attempt to escape their pasts and find acceptance.

     This production will be directed by Kathryn Williams, with assistance from Heather Sims.
