Starlighters II Theatre

Whatever you’re tapping into your mindset as to what you’re searching for, as to what may suit your fancy during the Starlighters II season for 2017, there’s one or more that will intrigue you. Or one that will make a laugh light up your face, because you think again, or even wish that you’re on stage!

Basilio Light of Anamosa is directing “The Odd Couple,” which should certainly sound familiar, unless you haven’t turned on the TV for years nor opened any kind of printed material. Auditions are set for Monday, Jan. 23; Tuesday, Jan. 24; Wednesday, Jan. 25; and Thursday, Jan. 26, each evening beginning at 6 p.m. Please write it on your calendar because maybe you’re not interested at this moment, but conditions sometimes change or you will meet a ringer for Oscar or one of the other characters and you can pass the word.

The cast consists of six men and two women, all over the age of 30. (Don’t let the age scare you; a little makeup and you can age a lot or even become younger.)

The men are: Oscar, Felix, Speed and Murray. The women are: widow Gwendolyn and divorcee Cecily. Both are two English sisters living upstairs with a tendency to giggle at the drop of a hat. (You’ll certainly enjoy one of Neil Simon’s best plays!)

The presentation dates are Friday, April 21 and Saturday, April 22 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 23 at 2 p.m., with the same schedule the following weekend (April 28-30).

Watch for more information on 2017 performances:

“Gigi” by Lerner & Loewe. Auditions May 1-9, with the presentation in July.

“Inheritors” by Susan Glaspell. Auditions July 16-19, and presentations in September and October.

“Christmas Dreams” by Jon Robertson. Auditions Oct. 2-4, and presentations in December.
