Starlighters opens auditions for Christmas production

     The Starlighters Theater II Christmas show will be “Christmas Dreams,” set in the Depression Era in 1933 Chicago. It presents a problem that all too many families face today, but shows there is always hope where there is a family.

     Auditions for the show will be Monday through Wednesday, Oct. 2-4 at 7 p.m. in the theatre auditorium. Performance dates are Dec. 1-3 and 8-10. Friday and Saturday shows are at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday shows start at 2 p.m.

     Anyone is welcome to audition. Those at Starlighters are generally cold readings, but one can go online at Dramatic Publishing and read an excerpt from “Christmas Dreams” by Jon Robertson. Those in need of readings prior to auditions due to reading challenges may contact the Director, Charlotte Scheckel, at 319-462-2573 or lotteheck@hotmail.com to make some accommodations.

     The roles are as follows:

     • Abby McArthur, 60s, Jackie’s crusty grandma

     • Holmes McArthur, 40s, Abby’s son and Jackie’s father

     • Jackie McArthur, late teens, Holmes’ son

     • Laura Novitsky, late teens, Jackie’s friend

     • Doris Slavik, mid-40s, Holmes’ sister, used to getting her way

     • Joshua Slavik, early- to mid-40s, Doris’ husband

     • Ray Russell, a neighbor to Jackie and Grandma

     • Omaha Red, man of any age, hobo

     • Carolers, middle school through adult (church group of 6-plus people), must be able to sing and “freeze” and not fidget or talk during special scenes
