County Engineer Derek Snead offered some cost analysis to the Jones County Supervisors during their May 25 board meeting concerning a load rating for Stone Bridge outside Monticello.

Origin Design (formerly IIW), who is working with Secondary Roads on the Landis Road Bridge project as a consultant, previously worked on a stone bridge in Elkader, Iowa. Based on that project, Snead said a load rating for Stone Bridge could cost around $25,000, plus an additional $15,000 for measurements and a site visit, for a total of $40,000.

Origin is also willing to provide recommendations in terms of avenues the county could use regarding Stone Bridge.

“This does not include design plans,” warned Snead.

In other county business:

     • The board approved a variance setback request from Darin and Gary Stolte, located at 12952 70th St., Olin.

The Stoltes are constructing a building on their property, and need more room for semi traffic. The setback applies to 130th Avenue, the road adjacent to their property.

     • The board approved the purchase of a new service pickup truck from Freese Motors for Secondary Roads, using the state bid price of $49,095.

They also approved a request for bids for the service truck body (crane and compartments) to affix into the truck.

     • The board approved a notice to bidders for the roof replacement on the Paint and Palette Club building at Grant Wood Memorial Park outside Anamosa. A bid letting will be held in June, with the work needing to be performed by Oct. 30.

     • The board abated a nuisance located at 24052 Ridge Rd., in Anamosa after a 14-day extension.
