Each month, Monticello High School nominates a student who exhibits positive behavior, as part of an initiative called PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports). The students support the school's characteristics of Respect, Responsibility, Caring, Safety, and Integrity.

Having been a Student of the Week in middle school, MHS freshman Macy Dusanek admitted she wasn't aware that the high school honors Students of the Month.

Dusanek was one of two students named Student of the Month for February. She was nominated by Special Education teacher Mary Jane Maher, who assists in Drew Arduser's English class. Maher said, "Macy is accepting of all classmates. When doing group work, a teacher knows that Macy can and will work with any classmate without ever a hard word or complaint. She makes all of her peers feel good about themselves."

Dusanek found out she was Student of the Month from Mr. Arduser.

"He told me and said he voted for me," she said.

Of the nomination, Dusanek said she just works well with others, helping her fellow students so they don't feel bad about themselves.

"I work hard at school; I don't cause problems," she said.

As for why she shows acceptance toward others, Dusanek said, "I know that some people can make others feel bad about themselves. I just don't see the point in that.

"When someone does something wrong, you don't put them down."

She said it's easy to get along with others.

"That's what's expected of me when we do group work."

Dusanek enjoys high school because she gets to be with her friends every day and socialize.

   Her favorite class is history.

"That's my most interesting class," she said. "I enjoy history in general."

Math is not so much her favorite class.

"It was never easy for me," she admitted.

Dusanek is active in FFA and volleyball.

She spends her summers working at Blush Acres horse stables in Worthington, helping with riding lessons.

In her free time, Dusanek likes to play her guitar, spend time outdoors, and hang out with her family and friends.

Dusanek is the daughter of Kerri and Dave Dusanek of Monticello.
