Kellie Lasack, the Jones County Ag in the Classroom coordinator, visited the third-grade class at Sacred Heart School Nov. 27 to teach students about vegetables that are grown in Iowa.

Lasack read from the book, “Who Grew My Soup,” by Tom Darbyshire. She then presented a lesson from the National Agriculture in the Classroom program, consisting of a vegetable fact wheel.

Students cut out and assembled the fact wheel, using it to match their food with the picture and information on the wheel. The students checked the ingredients in the story character’s soup to see if they were grown in Iowa.

They also discussed the ingredients that are locally grown all year long, and what factors would affect the availability of locally-grown food.
