With Great Give Day scheduled for May 10, the Jones Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) commissioners want to remind supporters that now is a great time to donate to an excellent cause that affects us all.

If availability of safe drinking water and protecting other natural resources in Jones County is a concern to you, then donating to the Jones SWCD during Great Give Day is appreciated. Through May 10 you can go to www.GreatGiveDay.org to donate.

In 2013, the Jones SWCD signed an agreement with the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque as part of the Jones County Community Foundation to establish an endowment fund. This fund allows donors to make a contribution that will give perpetually. The principal is never touched; only the earnings are allowed to be used to further the mission of the SWCD.

The mission of the Jones SWCD is to provide local leadership in the advancement of the protection and enhancement of the natural resources of Jones County by providing technical, educational, and financial assistance to the public by using all available resources. A portion of each year’s endowment fund payout is used for a college scholarship for a Jones County high school senior pursuing studies in conservation and natural resources. This year’s $400 recipient is Nick Welter, Onslow.

When supporters donate to a tax-exempt organization, such as the Jones SWCD, they may receive an additional 25 percent credit through the Endow Iowa State Tax Credit program in addition to writing the amount off their taxes.  The combination can save up to 60 percent on the donation cost depending on the individual’s tax situation.

For more information visit the Jones SWCD website at www.jonesswcd.org, or call the office at 319-462-3196 ext. 3.  You may also visit the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque’s website at www.dbqfoundation.org.
