Swim team to start up; meets will be virtual

The Monticello summer swim team has announced details for its delayed, but forthcoming 2020 season.

Among the biggest changes for the team this year, due to COVID-19, is that meets will be virtual, and the Monticello team will not travel to or host in-person swim meets.

     Other information about the season:

     • The summer swim team is for Monticello School District children, ages 6-18 as of June 1, who can swim the length of the pool without assistance. The swimmer’s age as of June 1 determines his or her division for the entire season.

     • Coaches will work with swimmers on stroke development, entry into the pool, and turns, so they cam compete in meets. It is also great exercise.

     • The season will run from Wednesday, July 1 through Friday, Aug. 7.

     • Practices will be Monday through Friday. Times will be based on the number of swimmers. There are two possible practice schedules. One of those is as follows: ages 6-10, Tuesday and Thursday, noon to 12:50 p.m.; ages 11-18, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, noon-12:50 p.m. The other possible schedule is ages 6-12, Monday through Friday, 11:15-11:55 a.m.; ages 13-18, Monday through Friday, 12:05-12:50 p.m.

     • Swimmers are not required to be at every practice, but are encouraged to make as many practices as possible.

     • Parents/guardians, and any other volunteers, are needed to help time the virtual meets.

     • Every swimmer who signs up will receive a t-shirt. Team suits and caps will not be available this year.
