This year’s 2016 Fill the Plate Telethon effort was a record-setting success with over $132,000 raised to provide nutritious meals and vital safety checks to older adults throughout Eastern Iowa.

The Stuff the Subaru/Share the Love Fareway Food Drive itself raised more than $14,000 in food donations that have already made a significant impact in the lives of older adults throughout the region.

“The outpouring of support for the Fill the Plate effort has been outstanding and exceeded all expectations,” said Regional Nutrition Coordinator Tim Getty. “This year’s telethon received the most calls in its history, which played a significant role in surpassing last year’s record by over $20,000.”

Opportunities continue for support of Fill the Plate. Subaru’s “Share the Love” campaign continues through Jan. 3, 2017, where customers who purchase a new Subaru can select Meals on Wheels to receive a $250 donation to provide meals to local older adults.

Additionally, direct tax-deductible donations can be made on the Fill the Plate website at www.kirkwood.edu/filltheplate. A mere $5 can provide a warm and nutritious meal to an older adult.
