Thanksgiving Community Dinner seeks donations, volunteers

Letter to the Editor

To the Editor,

I got to thinking why I like Thanksgiving and I came up with the following list:

     • No gifts to give

     • No snow to shovel (hopefully)

     • Lots of good food

     • Spending time with family and friends

     • Last long weekend before Christmas

     • Football to watch (if you like football)

     • Weather is usually not too hot nor too cold

Terry and I wanted to let you know that we will be heading up the team that will be hosting the Monticello Thanksgiving Community Dinner on Thanksgiving Day, at the Berndes Center. We look forward to seeing lots of familiar faces and meeting new people as we share this time together. Please give us a call

     • if you would like to dine-in with us OR

     • if you would like to order a carry-out meal OR

     • if you would like us to deliver a meal to you (within Monticello limits) OR

     • if you would like to bring us a pie on Thanksgiving morning OR

     • if you would like to donate your time or make a contribution.

We are also looking for volunteers to assist us with this event. Volunteer opportunities include:

     • Meal delivery (usually have six to seven routes that we support)

     • Table hosting (we serve family style, normally 10 to 12 tables and two hosts per table)

     • Greeting and seating (one to two people)

     • Cleanup and teardown

     • Food preparation and dessert plating

To make sure that we have enough food for everyone, please place your reservations by Wednesday, Nov. 21. However, even if you do not make a reservation or your plans change, please come and join us; we will make sure you have a place to sit.

If you have any questions about this event, please give us a call and leave us a message and we will get back to you. Our number is 319-465-3219. Donations can be dropped off at Monti Barber or Citizens State Bank, or can be sent to: TCD c/o Terry Feuling, 15736 120th Ave., Scotch Grove, IA 52310.

All monetary donations received in excess of what is needed for the event are donated to the local food bank.

Happy Thanksgiving and hoping to hear from you soon!

Bruce and Terry Feuling
