Thoma sentenced to 15 years in prison

     On April 8, Brandon Thoma was sentenced to 15 years in prison from two convictions that were entered of record: Willful assault causing injury, a Class C felony; and interference with official acts causing serious injury, a Class D felony.

     The charges stem from an assault by Thoma on correctional staff at the Anamosa State Penitentiary on April 24, 2021. The sentences were ordered consecutive to each other, and consecutive to Thoma’s current term of incarceration.

     The case was investigated by the Iowa Department of Corrections.

     Jones County Attorney Kristofer Lyons handled the successful prosecution on behalf of the State of Iowa.
