Two groups make All-State, nine get ‘ones’ at state speech

     Two Monticello High School groups received the prestigious All-State nomination as a result of the State Large-Group Speech Contest Saturday, Feb. 3 at Linn-Mar High School in Marion.

     Both nominated groups are pairs involved in Group Improv: Jon Mootz-Alex Nealson, and Jeff Carlson-Payton Jaeger. They will perform at the All-State Large-Group Speech Festival Saturday, Feb. 17 at the Iowa State Center in Ames.

     They were among nine MHS groups that received Division I ratings during the state contest.

     Among those receiving the “I” rating:

     Group Improv – Jon Mootz and Alex Nealson.

     Group Improv – Jeff Carlson and Payton Jaeger.

     Group Improv – Gary Pasker and Jonathan Range.

     Radio Broadcast – Rylee Bauer, Jaelynn Kraus, Nicole Porter and Rachel Nelson.

     Group Mime – “Exercise Mayhem,” Rileigh Lambert, Anna Loes and Macy McDonough.

     Varsity Musical Theatre – “Little Shop of Horrors,” Marisa Braford, Courtney Campbell, Jeff Carlson, Makayla Coffey, Olivia Goodyear, Presley Tapken and Kiley Wall.

     Ensemble Acting – “What a Contest,” Rileigh Lambert and Anna Loes.

     Freshman Musical Theatre – “Mushnik and Son,” Grahm Schneiter and Levi Temple.

     Freshman Readers’ Theatre – “Ten Reasons to Stay Home Sick,” Hannah Ahlrichs, Gavin Baugh, Kehde Campbell, Reese Cox, Caleb Gillmore, Jaelynn Graver, Kenzie Mysak, Jasper Nietert, Delaney Peitz, Maddie Stadtmueller, Brooklyn Stark and Levi Temple.

     Those receiving “II” ratings:

     Solo Mime – “Musical Mischief,” Makayla Coffey.

     Group Improv – Courtney Campbell and Micah Williams.
