Upcoming auditions at Starlighters Theatre

Now that the Christmas jolly season is over, it’s time to start thinking about having a jolly time at the January auditions on Monday, Jan. 23; Tuesday, Jan. 24; Wednesday, Jan. 25; and Thursday, Jan. 26, at 6 p.m. with Director Basilio Light and Assistant Kathryn Williams.

Put happy faces on your calendars now for a friendly reminder. The play is Neil Simon’s “The Odd Couple,” a Samuel French publication. It’s an opportunity to follow in the steps of the ‘70s TV show, the Broadway play in the ‘60s, or the 1968 movie where those two “buddies” have the lead with a supporting cast. Glancing at the previous performances, you can figure out the ages of characters.

Oscar: Takes Felix into his home after tension in his friend’s marriage.

Felix Unger: The neat guy reacts to the possibility of divorce by considering suicide and Oscar’s reaction makes the story come alive.

Murray: Policeman concerned about Felix. One of the poker players with a caring attitude.

Roy: Oscar’s accountant, poker player, for whom “smell” becomes a problem.

Speed: Poker player, complains a lot, always in a rush.

Vinnie: Poker player, less talkative, quiet man.

Cicely Pigeon: In her 30s, British, divorced, giggly, lives upstairs, open-minded.

Gwendolyn Pigeon: In her 30s, British, widow, also giggly, lives upstairs, works as a secretary.

The play will be presented on Friday, April 21 and Saturday, April 22 at 7:30 p.m., with a Sunday matinee, April 23, at 2 p.m., followed by the same schedule the following week.

Take advantage of knowledge of the play to give your funny bone a workout.
