Libertie Uppena set a school record and earned a spot in the Drake Relays during Midland’s April 18 meet at Durant.

Uppena competed in the shot put, and threw a record 41-foot-0.

“This is a great accomplishment for Libertie,” Midland coach Ryan Luensman said. “After placing second in the state last year, making it to Drake this year was a goal Libertie wanted to achieve.

“Libertie works hard at the fundamentals of throwing, and it is really starting to show with more consistent big throws.”

It wasn’t the only high finish for the Eagles, who took second place as a team. The sprint medley relay of Brennah Ricketts, Taylor Bahnsen, Emma Dusanek and Drew Jensen also won.

Taking second place were Jensen in the 400-meter run, and Jaelynn Folkers in the 1,500. In third were Folkers in the 3,000, Uppena in the discus and Bahnsen in the 400 hurdles. Delanie Uppena set a personal record while taking fourth in the 800. Kayla Folkers was fourth in the 3,000, and Jensen placed fourth in the 200.

“Everyone ran hard and competed throughout the night,” Luensman said.
