Urge state, federal legislators to protect Medicaid

Letter to the Editor

To the Editor,

I am writing to implore friends and neighbors to reach out to legislators at the state and federal level to support continuing funding of Medicaid, at least at current levels. More than 25 percent of Iowans are 60 years or older. The trend is the aging population is living longer and often experiencing complex health conditions. Unfortunately, the complex health conditions at some point may lead to a need to receive services from a long-term care facility (nursing home). Very few individuals have long-term care insurance to meet these expenses. In Iowa, 48 percent of the individuals in senior homes are receiving financial support from Medicaid. (Protect Our Care)

Therefore, many of our relatives and neighbors will need support from Medicaid to assure their basic healthcare needs are met.

I urge you to send a note ASAP to Representative Bradley, Senator Koelker, Representative Miller-Meeks, and Senators Grassley and Ernst to preserve funding for Medicaid to meet the essential health care needs of aging Iowans.

Respectfully,

Sandy and Keith Stamp
