Velisek joins Extension staff

Emily Velisek

Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach of Jones County hired a new County Youth Coordinator, Emily Velisek, on Nov. 29, 2021.

“Emily brings a working knowledge and passion for the agriculture industry and livestock show programming to ISU Extension and Outreach – Jones County. Additionally, as 4-H alumni, she excitingly shares the benefits of 4-H and FFA to Jones County,” said Alex Monaghan, ISU Extension and Outreach County director.

“We are excited to have Emily be a part of our team as we grow Jones County 4-H and Clover Kids programs.

Velisek will work to carry out the mission of ISU Extension and Outreach through 4-H and youth development programming. She will empower youth to reach their full potential through researched-based experiences in schools and at STEAM camps and 4-H clubs. She will collaborate with community partners to coordinate 4-H programming for the Great Jones County Fair and educational engagements.

She received a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Communications and Journalism from Kansas State University. Velisek built related work experience with the American Shorthorn Association, where she coordinated national shorthorn youth and adult livestock shows, lead and promoted ambassador programs and committee groups, and delivered marketing material to her audiences.

“In the first three months, I have had the opportunity to start programming in schools and work with 4-H members in the county,” Velisek said. “I got to attend the Beef Weigh-in, 4-H Awards Day, and a few 4-H Club meetings. I look forward to meeting people and working with schools and 4-H members throughout Jones County.” said Emily Velisek.
