Veterans Day, a reminder to us all
To the Editor,
A special day, set aside
For those who pay the cost
In service to the land they love
Though their life could be lost
They proudly raise their hand and swear:
“This I will defend”
Then take their place wherever sent
Standing fast until the end
They don’t ask for special thanks
Nor do they hesitate
But stand their post no matter what
Letting God decide their fate
We know that freedom isn’t free
War is a terrible thought
But what if none had done the job
What if none had fought
What if the minutemen had said
Let England have their way
Our freedom comes at such a cost
That we don’t want to pay
And what if those from that day on
Had failed to pay the price
And place themselves in harm’s way
And make the sacrifice
We owe so much to our heroes brave
That keep us free from fear
And give their all when duty calls
Shedding blood and crying tears
