Virtual Panther Prowl is planned

The Panther Prowl is on for 2020, but like many area running/walking events, it will be done virtually.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions and concerns, the race has been converted into a virtual 5K/10K and will take place over a two-week period from June 27 through July 11. A virtual event means everyone can participate by doing their walk/run on their own, while following social distancing guidelines.

The deadline to register is Saturday, June 27 at noon.

“Rather than beginning the run/walk at 9 a.m. on June 27, we are asking participants to run or walk any time that is convenient for them between June 27 and July 11, and submit final race times electronically,” race organizer Andrea Hall wrote on the BE Strong Fitness & Yoga Facebook page.

Proceeds from the event will benefit local organizations through the Greater Monticello Foundation.

Participants can choose from three options: to walk or run a 5K (3.1 miles), walk/run a 10K (6.1 miles) or complete both. Entry fees are: 5K, $10 for ages 19 and under or $15 for ages 20 and over; 10K, $25; or both 5K and 10K, $35.

Everyone who signs up before June 27 will be eligible for a t-shirt, and shirts will be mailed out by July 11.

“Last year we had nearly 100 runners/walkers in our first year back reviving this race, and we’re hoping to surpass that number this year,” Hall posted.
