The Monticello High School volleyball team not only had a loud fan base and student section supporting it during their division title-clinching win over Camanche Oct. 5, it also had – dinosaurs.

Six MHS students dressed up in T-rex costumes and cheered for the volleyball team that way, staying in costume throughout. They included seniors Jacob Manternach, Kyle Sperfslage and Wesley Henderson; and juniors Jon Mootz, Avery Martensen and Gavin Cooper.

“We originally got them for Character Day (during Homecoming Week),” Manternach said. “We got them all online.

“We were looking for another excuse to wear them.”

Manternach said Monticello fans and athletes have likely not seen the last of the costumes.

“I’m sure we’ll bring them out again at some point,” he said.
