Volunteer Center seeks volunteer drivers

The Jones County Volunteer Center needs your help.

The Elderly Assisted Transportation Program serves Jones County senior citizens by taking those who cannot afford other options to their medical appointments outside of the county. Without this program, many of these folks would not receive the medical care that they require. Recently the Volunteer Center has seen an increase in needs and because of that, is in need for more help.

“We’re currently facing having to turn folks away,” shared Amy Keltner, Volunteer Center coordinator.

The Volunteer Center is looking for volunteers with reliable transportation to be available weekdays and be able to transport to locations in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City. Clients served are 55 and older. Some may have walkers to provide assistance but are able to take care of their own needs. Drivers are only responsible for the transportation, not to go in to the appointments. Volunteers will need to pass background checks. Mileage reimbursement is provided for these trips.

If interested, inquiring minds should call the Volunteer Center at 319-560-0811.

The Volunteer Center is located at 105 Broadway Place, Suite 1, in Anamosa.
