The Monticello Park Board met on Monday, Sept. 12, and discussed the Parks and Recreation master plan survey that was released to the public earlier this summer.

In all, Parks and Rec Director Jacob Oswald reported that over 400 people completed the survey.

“I want to thank everyone who took the time to complete it,” he said via a video on the Parks and Rec Facebook page.

The Park Board went over some of the ideas shared in those surveys.

“We’re excited to dive into it deeper and work together to put together a plan for the future of our community,” said Oswald.

The Park Board chose to focus on some low-hanging fruit-type of projects.

On Sept. 5, Parks and Rec held its second annual Duck Drop. That event raised over $1,100, to be put toward a community project. Oswald explained the board chose four projects to possibly appropriate those funds toward:

   • Lights at the pickleball courts

   • More holiday decorations/lights downtown

   • Pocket park string lights (a co-project with the Monticello Chamber)

   • General playground improvements

“We want to hear what the community has to say,” urged Oswald.

Visit “City of Monticello – IA Parks & Recreation” on Facebook. In the comments under Oswald’s video are the four options. Simply “like” which project you think the Duck Drop money should go toward.

Those who completed the master plan survey had their name entered into a drawing for three raffle prize packages. The winners were:

   • Dena Himes – a gift bag from Animal Welfare Friends (AWF), storage totes from Orbis, a night’s stay at Central Park and an hour of watercraft rentals, one-month membership to BE Strong Fitness & Yoga, a gift barrel from Whiffle Tree Mercantile, and a two-hour pool party at the Monticello Aquatic Center.

   • Kelsey Schwendinger – a gift bag from Animal Welfare Friends (AWF), storage totes from Orbis, two rounds of golf at the Monticello Golf Club, golf balls, sweatshirts and t-shirts from Monticello Sports, and $100 in credit toward Parks and Rec programming.

   • John Taylor – a gift bag from Animal Welfare Friends (AWF), storage totes from Orbis, a night’s stay at Central Park and an hour of watercraft rentals, Monticello Chamber Bucks from State Farm Insurance, and a 2023 family pool pass from Parks and Rec.
