Wapsi Trail receives $100,000 Wellmark grant

The Wellmark Foundation has approved the request of the Wapsipinicon Trail Committee of Jones County for a $100,000 MATCH Grant for phase 1, trail construction.

The Wellmark Foundation is excited about the community’s commitment to the health of its residents. The Wellmark Foundation works to make Iowa a better place for all to engage in a safe and healthy environment in which to be active, and the trail committee is dedicated to creating this outlet for the safety and well-being of our residents. This project is part of the Parks to People/Grant Wood Loop priority projects and will impact the community for generations to come.

The grant must be matched on a dollar-to-dollar basis. In order to receive the $10,000 grant, the committee will need to match at least 50 percent of the grant in cash gifts. Fifty percent of the match can be in-kind gifts and services. This match must be secured by early September of this year, so the trail committee needs to have all hands on deck! Any donations are appreciated.

For more information on the project or information of giving levels, contact Dusty Embree at Jones County Economic Development: director@jonescountydevelopment.com, 319-480-7446. Or you may send donations made out to GWMRR with Wapsi Trail in the memo line c/o JCED, 121 E. Main St., Anamosa, IA 52205.

“We are thrilled about the news of the Wellmark Foundation Matching Grant, said Wapsipinicon Trail Committee member Brad Hatcher. “Each dollar given will be matched 2-to-1 by this grant. What a great catalyst for community giving!”
