We need to do something for our children

Letter to the Editor

To the Editor,

We have two daughters in middle school. Recently we asked them about why we need a new middle school; the reply was, “There are holes in the walls and the ceilings and there are mice.”

While we may laugh initially at this response, quite honestly after a few minutes of really thinking about it, it is quite pathetic.

Our children, who are our future, spend eight hours a day, 40 hours a week, in a building with mice, asbestos, fire hazards with multiple cords plugged into minimal outlets, holes in the ceilings and walls, just to name a few of the dangers.

How would you like your workplace to have that description?

Monticello, we need to do something. As Jeff Hinrichs stated in his letter last week, we have two choices: pay $30 million to upgrade an old facility and still have an old building or pay $22 million for a new facility.

Please join us in voting yes on Sept. 11 for a new middle school.

Sincerely,

Kevin and Jess Hansen
