Weather Academy

KCRG-TV9 News Meteorologist Kaj O’Mara stopped by the Monticello Public Library on July 11 to host the “Weather Academy.” Roughly 100 people were in attendance, children and adults. O’Mara showcased KCRG’s old weather station which records wind speed (anemometer), wind direction, precipitation, and air pressure (barometer). He also talked about the importance of updated radar, which is a critical weather instrument that detects precipitation. O’Mara then pulled two volunteers from the audience, Greyson Keunen and Brynn Schmit, to help demonstrate how the tilted earth orbits around the stationary sun to create seasons. This was a free program for the library. (Photos by Kim Brooks)
