Kole Weber of Monticello is this year’s recipient of three bred heifers for the Jones County Cattlemen Heifer Project.

The is the second year of the program, which is designed to provide young adults the opportunity and assistance to start their own foundation herd here in Jones County.

For the project, the Cattlemen provide three bred heifers for the recipient, who is chosen from an application process. The heifers will calve in February.

Weber will take care of the heifers and the calves for the next four years. He is a freshman at Monticello High School.

This program is modeled after the ICA - Iowa Foundation Heifer Program. At graduation from high school, Weber will help further fund the project by contributing 80 percent of the initial investment back to the Jones County Cattlemen.

The Cattlemen purchased the heifers from Eric Ehresman of Lone Oak Cattle in Mechanicsville.
