Wennekamp wins club tournament at 9-under

GOLF

Mike Wennekamp had a strong start to the Men’s Club Tournament at the Monticello Golf Club on Saturday, July 27, and did even better on Sunday, finishing 9-under par to win by three strokes.

It was the third club championship for Wennekamp, who last won it in 2013.

“The putter was hot. That was the difference,” Wennekamp said.

His strong start on Sunday was also a key factor. He and Chance Manternach both shot 68 on Saturday, but Wennekamp birdied four of the first five holes Sunday to take control, and held off Manternach by three strokes.

Wennekamp finished with a 68-67–135; Manternach shot 68-70–138. Dustin Hall was third with 141, and Aaron Prull took fourth with 145.
