What are your 2020 goals?

I don’t like New Year’s resolutions. Never have!

Most don’t set realistic resolutions; they can’t be accomplished.

The only yearly resolution I set for myself is a reading goal. I try to read so many books a year. Most years I’ve succeeded in my reading goal; some years, I come close. Whether I win or lose at that resolution, I don’t beat myself up about it.

Recently I came across an article that encouraged people to set realistic New Year’s resolutions or goals. Now these I can get behind…

Walk More

Pretty much every morning and night, I walk to and from work. I practically live across the street, so it’s an easy walk.

I try to walk to meetings or interviews downtown, if it’s not 70 degrees below zero out.

But yes, I need to walk (exercise) more in 2020.

Wake Up 15 Minutes Earlier Every Day

I am NOT a morning person. I am definitely a night owl. I know exactly how long it takes me to wake up and get ready for the day. So I set my alarm accordingly. But having a few extra minutes in my morning routine would be nice so I don’t feel like I am rushing myself.

Go to More Museums

I love history. I love museums.

I’ve been to my fair share of museums in Iowa: Mississippi River Museum, Monticello Heritage Center, Hoover Presidential Museum, the Children’s Museum in Coralville. But, I know there are so many more museums filled with history out there to explore in Iowa.

I’ve also been to several Smithsonian museums in Washington, D.C. But, not all of them. I’d love to go back to explore…

You can never get your fill of history!

Read for Fun

I LOVE to read, if you haven’t figured that out already. I try to read for fun as much as I can, but life gets busy.

Some people I know set lofty reading goals for themselves. I need to set a higher reading for fun goal and try my darndest to accomplish that!

Hug Your Family

This might seem like a silly resolution, but life is so unpredictable. Hugging your parent, sibling or grandparent brings them just as much joy as it does you.

I’m not a “hugger,” but I will try and stick to this resolution.

Try New Things

I don’t know what 2020 will bring… Hopefully there are many new things that will come my way. A new hobby? A new interest? A new experience? Who knows…

No matter what resolutions or goals you set for yourself next year, make 2020 a great year for yourself!
