Wildcats get outdoors

MAQUOKETA VALLEY RECAP

Girls track

     Maquoketa Valley competed in the Anamosa Invitational April 10, and finished 12th overall with nine points.

     Lydia Helle accounted for four of those with a fifth-place finish in the discus, at 100-foot-0.5. Helle also was seventh in the shot put.

    

Boys track

     Maquoketa Valley competed in the West Delaware Invitational April 13, finishing seventh overall with 40 points.

     Cedar Rapids Xavier won the meet with 99 points, Benton Community was second with 95 and Center Point-Urbana placed third with 83.

     The Wildcats won the 4x100 weightman’s relay in 51.11 seconds with the team of Michael Feldmann, Alex Digman, Andrew Hildebrand and Brody Sevart.

     Taking third were Mitch Neuzil in the 100, the 4x200 team of Mitch Neuzil, Alex McCusker, Daniel Hunter and Derek Becker; the 4x800 team of Chance Downs, Becker, Derek Mensen and Brenden Hogan; the shuttle hurdle relay team of Brock Hillers, Becker, Tiege Hunt and Chad Neuzil.           

 

Golf

     Maquoketa Valley was finally able to get outdoors and compete in a boys and girls golf meet, playing host to Springville at Hart Ridge in Manchester.

     The Wildcat girls defeated Springville 221 to 278, as Kelly Winter shot a 49 to be meet medalist. Faith Hunt scored 53, Chloe Roling had 58, and Erika Supple had 61.

     The MV boys had just one golfer, Austin Snyder, who was runner-up with a 53, four strokes behind Springville’s Ryan Barner.

     “I was very happy that the weather finally cooperated for us to get out and get a competition in,” Maquoketa Valley coach Tim Andrews said. “Overall I was happy with how everyone performed despite the lack of outdoor practices.”
